Description :
Artisan Craftsmanship of Betschdorf Stoneware
Betschdorf stoneware is renowned for its unique qualities, achieved through a specific firing process:
- Dried clay fired at a temperature of 1250°C (2282°F) for 40 hours.
- Sodium chloride is projected into the kiln, creating an impermeable and acid-resistant glaze.
This process gives the pottery its remarkable properties: it is ideal for storing alcohol, vinegar, oils, butter, and eggs.
The famous Betschdorf blue is obtained from cobalt oxide, a pigment that withstands high temperatures and gives these ceramics their traditional aesthetic.
